    Description

    Dolls
The following lising is for a Rare Wax Over Bisque 36 Inch Doll with Cloth Body.
    Marked:  Unmarked
Material:  Wax, Feels like Painted Bisque or heated clay-type material.  Mohair Hair Wig and Stuffed Cloth Body.
Features:  The following listing; Rare Wax-Over Painted Bisque Doll from the Lewis Sorensen Estate has a cloth body.  She has the appearance of bee's wax over bisque doll with old stuffed cloth body painted eyes and closed mouth.  Brown mohair is thick and pulled back into a bun.  Her limbs are painted and doll does not appear retouched.  Her dress is not original to this doll, her pantaloons are original and appropriate and seen together and one lace shoulder-strap is secured under the shoulder-head.  The head is modeled and has facial paint detail under the wax for cheeks, lip color and eyebrows.  Her open eyes are blue and articulated well.  Pantaloons are sewn together at the top and lace straps are glued, one under the shoulder-plate so I can not show the body but there does not appear to be a signature on the body.
Size:   36  inches -  91 cm in height.  We charge only what it costs us to safely ship your package to you and nothing more.
Age: Lewis Sorensen created dolls from the 1930s almost until the time of his death in 1986 approximately. I don't know if he made this doll but the original purchase reportedly came from his estate.  The doll body reminds me of bodies made in the 1960's -70s.
Condition:   Condition is subjective but item is used.  Although her wig is intact, it is thick and hair needs a bit of taming for the shorter fly-away strands.  Missing one arm that appears to have broken at some later date.  Leg and pantaloons had soil which I am cleaning to the best of my ability.  Thin wax over facial features.  Pieces of wax missing - see photographs.  I may not have caught everything so please rely on pictures as part of description.  Please see photographs and or or video and ask prior to bidding any questions you may have regarding this item.

I was told that he had bought it at Lewis Sorensen's Estate Sale. The cloth used on the body and the clothing looks very much like the cloth my mother used for sewing doll bodies in the 1960s and 70s. The lace strap on the left shoulder is under the shoulderhead so I can't remove it without cutting a strap and the clothing one-piece pantaloon is sewn together. I put an antique (probably from the 30s or 40s) red and white polka-dot dress and antique lacy slip on her since they fit and look more appropriate than just the pantaloons. I have to spot clean the leg of the pantaloon and left leg since I can't take the clothing before meantioned off. Now the grade of clay used, I am not totally familiar with but clay has it's own receipe and I can't tell if it had been poured, pressed into a mold or modeled since it is about .25 inch or slightly less where the break in the arm was, near the flange. The only thing I can tell is the clay is fired and painted over. I don't see a glaze having been applied which makes since.
