    Description

    Welcome to my ebay store!
This is an unusual shoulder head DOLL HEAD only. (Needs Body). Maker and age unknown.
It came from an estate of a 95 year old antiques dealer in my town who had a ton of various dolls and parts that I purchased--everything from antique Steiff bears, to JDK, this
doll head has no marks other than a  remnant of vintage style sticker type red label inside as you can see in photo.
Will make a gorgeous early look doll Just add kid or cloth body.
She has a very pretty Hand Painted closed mouth dolly face look with
antique blue grey German blown glass set eyes
to replace what was there at one time. Unfortunately I have had NO luck in figuring out who made this head.
It is reminiscent of Wax over Composition dolls, the material of the head feeds like a solid weight wood or composition and the material it is coated with is harder than wax or has been sealed at one time. Therefore I am listing it as Age, maker unknown. I'm guessing its antique/vintage because everything else she had was Pre 1950s. And by the red adhesive sticker inside is something I see all the time on antiques and vintage items I buy.
    Head i
s finely crazed yet NOT peeling or cracking, despite those hairlines the head is totally intact and hard to the touch unlike a soft wax head. As you can see inside the molded head it looks like a composition/wood /paper mache material. Unlike any compo I have dealt with as a doll doctor for the past 8 years.
Has nicely painted features, particularly the eyebrows and lashes. Most likely made for cloth or leather body.  I was guessing it could be either French or German but it is a mystery. The single stroke brows look German in style imo.
Head is 5 1/2" high. 3" wide shoulder plate and 4" front to back.  The head circumference is 10 1/2". I am not sure what size doll body this would work with-- but it is VERY easy to calculate by using proportions of head size as shown in the image from Westfall's Handbook of Doll repairs. Keep in mind this is a SHOULDER HEAD which will not work on a socket compo body.
She has nicely painted tapered single line light brown eyebrows, red painted inner eye dots, painted lips including painted white teeth, very rosy cheeks, nice painted upper lashes.
She has a slanted head opening which was common with early bisque German dolls or French dolls. Head has the original wood or heavy early wood/pasteboard type material original pate glued on.
The old red sticker label on inside shoulder plate says #2 H S/T and 200.
I am showing her with one of my vintage human hair wigs.  (Any straw hat in photos has been sold so it is not included, just wig included). The wig is a true Human Hair auburn shade, vintage, made in Japan. It is not glued on, I will leave that to buyer to do.
The human hair can be styled or pinned up as I did and tucked under a hat as it is a nice long length, untrimmed.
Can be displayed as is or make a body.
