Description
This sweet Flapper has a perfect face and shoulders of heavy celluloid, Kewpie lips, peach cheeks and brilliant crystal-clear sapphire sleep eyes. Her rusty brown hair, styled with "spit curls" and glued on, may be human. Her original felt suit dates her to the 1920s or 30s and features a white sleeveless bodice over a pleated attached fuschia skirt and jacket. Her fashionable cloche hat, with loopy accent, also is felt and has a small rub on one side. White bodice is age and water stained at top and skirt has small hole. (see pix.)
I call her Pixie. She has a cloth body, possibly padded with excelsior, fabric stitched slightly bent legs, arms with mitten stitched hands in good condition. Tops of arms and upper part of body water stained. Arms attached with staples and move freely. She sits nicely. Eyes open and close fully and are encased in nicely painted lashes. Clothes, including mesh fabric underwear and remnants of shoes and socks are original.
Pixie is 16 inches tall and unmarked. Similar celluloid head and shoulder/cloth dolls have been made by countless dollmakers in Europe and the US. I suspect she's American.
This Flapper with the beautiful face can make some little (or big) girl a very Merry Christmas.
