    Description

This beautiful doll comes from an estate collection that spans four generations.
She is a lovely Black doll, possibly African American, or from another country. She made of stuffed cloth, with yarn hair in braids tied with red satin ribbons. Her face is nicely embroidered, and she has white hoop earrings, too. Her cotton print dress has puffed sleeves and is topped by an apron of white organdy, trimmed with red cotton bias tape. She is about 15" tall overall. This is a half doll without legs. One photo shows the support hand-stitched under the skirt.
This doll has been carefully stored for many years. It may have minor damage consistent with age, such as minimal staining, as shown in photos. Please review all photos as an important part of the description.
Here is some information on the provenance of the collection which may help with the age and source of the dolls. Great grandmother "Noni" was born in Scotland in the 1860's, attended the University of California at Berkeley in the 1880's, went to Europe to study for a time, and then married and returned to Princeton, New Jersey. Her sister and brother were both missionaries in China and India, and when Noni visited them she brought back souvenir dolls. Others in the family also traveled, so there is a wide variety of unusual dolls in the collection. Noni died in 1953, so we expect all dolls date prior to the early 1950's, and some are much older. The dolls were finally inherited by the great granddaughter who was born in 1947, and are offered now for your consideration.
